We are really pleased to see them going up in every New Forest Forestry England car park! 🙌🏼

This is another great collaboration; paid for by the NFCDA and New Forest Verderers and installed by the FE.

A big thank you to everyone involved in this project 😁

It is World Wetlands Day today, a great chance to celebrate the New Forest’s amazing wetlands habitat.

Did you know that…

🌍The New Forest is one of the best examples of wetland habitat in Western Europe!

🤯There are over 1000 ponds found in the Forest!

🐌 It is home to over 30% of the UK's freshwater invertebrate species!

Good News 🎉

💁 At the start of the year we placed our salt licks along Roger Penny Way (A road infamous for animal accidents).

🤔 Ponies love to lick the salt off the road spread by gritting lorries, meaning that in winter they can be attracted to the roads.

📆 Last year was the first year of trialing the licks and it was deemed a success, with fewer animals involved in road accidents in the time they were out!!

↔️ The salt licks are placed well back from the road (130 meters aprox) and will stay there through the winter months.

🐴 Ponies are creatures of habit, the salt licks will draw some animals away from the road, but many will continue with their old ways.

⚠️ It is always important to remember to #expecttheunexpected and please #drivetotheconditions.
